There are times for love and care.
There are times for joy and dancing.
There are times for learning and understanding.

There are times for sharing and giving.
There are times for building and rebuilding.
There are times speaking and listening.
There are times for shouting and silence.

Now it’s time to share the warmth of Wings for L.I.F.E.
Now it’s time for Wings for L.I.F.E. to open its wings to our communities, and share its knowledge, love and care,
Now it’s time for all of us to open our hearts and feelings, so Wings for L.I.F.E. can help others with their lives.

Loved One Arrested - What's Next? How Can You Help?

Kari Converse has been a criminal defense attorney for the past 23 years. She currently is an assistant federal public defender, so is experienced about federal crimes, court proceedings, prisons, etc. Kari will explain about how the system works, and share why things often happen the way they do. She also speaks Spanish and has a unique insight on legal cultural differences that lead many immigrants to not understand our laws. Kari is experienced, very knowledgeable, and most importantly a person who cares about the inmates as well as their loved ones. Please come and meet Kari and find out ways you can help incarcerated loved ones or family or friends who are dealing with an incarcerated loved one.

Successful Re-entry - How He Did It!

Monday - December 7 - YMCA 4901 Indian School NE - 6:00 - 7:30 pm. Drake Shafer has worn many hats over the years - husband, father, successful real estate investor, and...inmate. Now he is a "Returning Citizen" and he has had a successful re-entry back to the community. How did he do it? What did he learn along the way? Come and learn from this wonderful man! Drake has a zeal for life and making the most of every day that all of us could strive for. Please join us for this uplifting night and discover what Drake has learned on his journey. Evelyn Fernandez grew up in Albuquerque's South Valley. Now she is the school Principal at Longfellow Elementary in Martineztown. Evelyn will share parts of her life journey with us. What did she learn along the way which helped her to excel and become a school Principal? She will offer suggestions about how to get involved in your children's schools and talk about why this is so important to a student's success. Please join us for this exciting evening! Back-to-School ~ Starting the Year off Right!

Starting a new school year is exciting and a little scary - especially if you don't know what to tell new teachers and school administrators if you have a loved one incarcerated or are dealing with legal issues. How do you answer those difficult questions about where dad or mom is, or where you've been the past few years? Discuss positive ways to deal with these issues and many more. Make the start of the school year your best one yet! This meeting will be held at Second Presbyterian Church, corner of Lomas and Edith, August 24, Monday. The discussion will be led by Ann Edenfield Sweet and will begin at 6:00 p.m.

Domestic Violence - It Could Happen to You!

Crystal Hallon, the Community Services Director for Safe House, will help us understand what to do if you, or a loved one experiences domestic violence. Where do you go? How do you stay safe? Domestic violence is far too common in our society and we all need to be aware of the signs. Please join us for this important meeting which will be held at the YMCA, 4901 Indian School NE. Program starts at 6:00 p.m.

WOW! What a great meeting!

Last night WFL hosted a fashion show you would not believe. Models wore clothes they bought at thrift stores or yard sales and showed off beautiful outfits that cost little or nothing.

Ann kept up an entertaining commentary regarding the models and their spiffy ensembles they chose to wear. From little tykes going into kindergarten on up to a fabulous senior couple showing how to get around with a broken foot, it was quite an evening. There were over 70 guests that enjoyed the runway show!

Conflict Management - Sounds Good, But How Do You Do It?

Pamela Stovall, Professor of Communication and Journalism at UNM Gallup, teaches an Interpersonal Communication class at UNMG One of the major things she teaches is how to successfully deal with conflict. Pam's interactive presentation will explain what an "I" statement is and how it can turn a disagreement into a positive thing. Then she'll teach all of us how to do that! Every person experiences conflict - come and find out ways to deal with it!

This FREE lecture will be held at the YMCA on Indian School Rd.(address above) and will start at 6 p.m.

What Is "Internet Safety"?

Are you aware of the federal law that was created to help protect kids online? or online tools that are available that will let you help protect them from internet predators? Patricia Rael, the "Internet Expert" from the New Mexico Attorney General's office, will talk about issues we need to be aware of concerning the internet.

If you or your children use the internet you ALL need to hear the most current information about internet safety!

This will be held July 27, Monday, at Second Presbyterian Church on the corner of Lomas and Edith. Meeting begins at 6 pm. You are invited to bring the whole family.

Last night's meeting on parole/probation was VERY informative with a lively discussion that followed. High Noon Restaurant in Old Town donated a delicious meal and believe me...it was thoroughly enjoyed by one and all!

REMEMBER...this coming Sat., July 18, meet us at Central Methodist Church, 201 University (1 block N. of Central). We leave there at 9:30 a.m. and will carpool 40+ miles to the Tent Rocks on the Cochiti Pueblo, if time & ability permits we'll swim & cool off in Cochiti Lake!

Bring lunch, snacks, plenty of water, sunscreen, camera, bathing suit, towels, & full tank of gas if you will be driving. Wear hiking or comfortable shoes, hat, backpack, and books or games to play if you don't plan to hike. (Optional folding chair). What You Need to Know About Probation & Parole

On Monday, July 13, Amber Dennison, a U.S. Probation Officer from Albuquerque, will explain what probation and parole entails. This meeting will give you an opportunity to ask and receive answers on this subject. Learn the do's and don'ts of probation/parole and how family members can help and get help.
