Empowering Youth & Families
April 20 - Monday – Suicide Prevention
In 2007, 19.3% of New Mexican high school students admitted seriously considering suicide. Being incarcerated or having a loved who is incarcerated can put someone at an increased risk for attempting suicide. But did you know that 90% of the people who attempt suicide have a diagnosable mental health issue? Learn the warning signs and find out how you can help friends and loved ones. Sabrina Strong, Chair of the NM Suicide Prevention Coalition and Joan Murphy will discuss this difficult, but important issue. If you want a little exercise before the meeting, come about 5:15 and we’ll do some walking in the neighborhood before dinner.

The focus of Wings for L.I.F.E. – Life-skills Imparted to Families through Education, is to promote and strengthen healthy family relationships and communication. Each night we’ll share a delicious dinner together, learn something new, and have fun! Don’t miss it. High Noon Restaurant & Saloon has generously offered to provide dinner each month. Domino’s Pizza continues to be a monthly sponsor too, along with Cross of Hope Lutheran Koinonia Group, and we are always looking for new dinner sponsors.
Wings is also collaborating with New Heart, Inc. We have started walking groups before Wings for L.I.F.E., provide healthy and nutritious hints and cooking ideas, and offer a new reading club for kids ages 6 – 12! Wings for L.I.F.E. is expanding and growing and we hope that YOU will join us!
PLUS – Free dinner, Door Prizes, and crafts and reading club for kids.
PLEASE call Ann at 291-6412 so we can plan accordingly and make sure we have enough food.
